"Horrid Henry's Summer Camp" is the thirty-sixth episode in Series 2 and the 88th episode overall.

Synopsis[]

Henry and Peter are off to summer camp, but it's not going to be a holiday by any means.

Plot[]

Henry and Peter discover that Mum and Dad are going to Paris for three days. While they're gone, Peter and Henry will be going to summer camp. At first, Henry is excited, but when he sees that it requires a lot of hard work, he runs after his parents, who speed away in the car. After that, Henry screams, 'Noooo!!!', opening the title card.

Back at camp, Henry and Peter go into their cabin where they meet his friends, Bert and Al. Then, Captain Crunch tells everyone to go to bed, however it not even being 6pm yet. Henry questions her about this and Crunch scares him by saying, 'You need your sleep, young man! Tomorrow will be a big day!'. That night, Henry turns on the light over his head when Crunch says ‘No reading after lights out!’, but then he hides under his cover, turns on his flashlight instead and reads his comic. Then, early in the morning, Henry wakes up to see everyone standing up in their uniform as a bugle is heard but he is still in his PJs and his bed is messy. Upon discovering this, Crunch throws away Mr Kill and orders Henry to do 50 push-ups. After that, they all run to an activity pitch for the assault course.

Peter and the younger kids all go to a playground and Henry likes the idea of that, until Crunch redirects him to a complicated obstacle course for the older kids. Al and Bert complete it without any major problems, but Henry fails all of the obstacles. To add insult to injury, he fell in a mud pit and splattered everyone with mud. Then, Crunch announces that the campers will have lunch. Peter comes to Henry to ask him how fun it was, but Henry disagrees.

In the mess hall, Henry is lining up to collect lunch. He asks the lunch lady for some burgers and chips, but instead he gets sloppy stew. Henry complains but Peter declared that he loved stew. Henry drowned out that statement with his whining and soon he was raging. Because of this, he transformed into a grizzly bear and shattered his bowl and roared. However, Captain Crunch also turned into a bear and scared Henry, making him revert back to normal. Captain Crunch glares at him, which makes him snatch Peter's bowl and take quite a large portion of stew.

Back in the cabin, in the dead of night, Peter is woken up by Henry who whispers to him that he wants to escape and wants the others to join him. Peter refuses since he likes it at camp and Al also refuses since he wants to join a 20 km hike that the campers will do. Bert agrees to run away with Henry with an ‘I dunno’ line. They then get changed and leave the cabin. By the fence, they try to dig their way out with a shovel but the siren sounds. Alerted, they run away and seek shelter in a random cabin. It is actually the Captain's and she scares and shops the boys back to their cabin.

In the morning, the campers venture out on their 20 km hike but Henry rides on his skateboard and he trips, making him and Bert leave the group and they become stranded. At first they are quite happy, but then they struggle to find food, make a proper shelter and to keep content, and they realise how hard camping out in the wild can be.

Sooner or later, Crunch and the others had to find them. The pair were found sleeping together and they were rescued by the campers and they returned. Henry got Mr Kill back thanks to Peter. That night, at the rewards ceremony, Peter was awarded for being a hunter and tracker scout and Henry for his survivor skills, and they'll share the prize for a three week holiday at Camp Sunshine, and Henry screams, 'Noooo!!!', ending the episode.

This is the only episode where Mrs Crunch transforms.
The name 'Captain Crunch' is possibly a reference to the cereal brand 'Captain Crunch'.

Errors[]

When Henry and Peter are walking to their cabin, it's sunset, but when Captain Crunch tells them to go to bed, Henry complains that it's only six o'clock. In summer, it would still be daylight at 6:00 PM and the sun wouldn't set until about 9:00 PM. There is a very similar error in the episode Horrid Henry and the Green Machine.
When Henry asks for stew, the girl behind him eating stew on the table has a light skin tone and burgundy hair. A few seconds later, her skin is tan and she has dark maroon hair.
At first Captain Crunch threw Mr Kill out of the window, it's unknown how Henry found him while trying to escape with Bert that night.
