"Horrid Henry Gets Rich Quick (episode)" is the nineteenth episode in Series 1 and the 19th episode overall.

Synopsis[]

When Henry decides to get more pocket money, he starts to have a sale. Then his brain had an idea: sell Peter as a servant!

Plot[]

The episode starts with Henry playing with his toy castle. Then he gets mad because the castle was rubbish and needed a proper one. He finds out that his piggy bank is empty and screams 'Noooo!!!'/'I need more money!!!', opening the title card.

When Henry goes into the kitchen, he complains to Mum about having no pocket money, only to reply that 50p a week is enough. Peter then says that he saves money, making Henry angry and transform into a crab. Henry is then banned from pocket money for a week. He needs a new castle, so Mum says he has to save it up for it. Henry asked how he can do that and Dad said he could earn money. Henry scoffs then puts ear wax on Peter's sweater.

Later, he tries to set up a sale by selling some of his broken toys, including Dad's tennis racket and Mum's perfume. Ralph, Bert, and Al stop by at Henry's sale, already making 37p. Peter then saw his sale and complained that he's selling the perfume and the tennis racket. Henry then threatens him to sell him if he doesn't be quiet, then it gave him a 'Eureka!' moment: all he could do is sell Peter as a servant (he’ll give him 10p a day), so Henry could get money and will get Peter back some money. Ralph then buys Peter and gives Henry £1.50. Henry says to the audience he’ll have £2.67 and imagines having his own superstores in the world along with a yellow limo.

At home, Mum asks Henry where her special perfume went, but he lies and said he hasn't seen it. Then she also asks him where Peter is. He tells the truth, and Mum gets angry at him. Henry says when he’s king, parents won’t be allowed to have any pocket money. So Henry goes to Ralph's house to buy Peter back, but when he got there, Ralph told him he sold Peter to Margaret and got £2 for him and Henry believed he was robbed.

Henry watched Peter serving Margaret and Susan in her backyard making him their slave. Peter begs Henry to rescue him by telling him that he'll give him all of his money. The two brothers made a new deal, and Henry told Margaret that he has to buy his brother back but she refused so he gives her £1.50. Margaret got Peter trained for £10 so Henry offered to take his place. The two enemies made a deal and Peter was free to go.

Henry brings the girls their drinks, but Susan had to go now so Margaret sees her friend out. Henry makes a plan and then she comes back, and he fans her when her chair was unbent. She gets trapped in an umbrella, then she steps on her paddling pool and slips.

Margaret gives Henry his money back and tells him to leave. Henry was happy because now he's rich. In the car, Dad was amazed that Henry has a lot of money which he earned it. Henry tells Dad the stuff he wants to buy but he asked him if he'll have enough leftover.

Henry realised that he and Dad were going to a sports shop where they sell tennis rackets and then the perfume shop where they sell perfume. Dad thinks Henry should have just about enough money, and he screams, 'Noooo!!!' as they drive on, ending the episode.

Trivia[]

  • This is one of the seven episodes where Horrid Henry and Moody Margaret both lose throughout the episode. The others are "Horrid Henry's School Fair", "Horrid Henry and the Secret Club", "Horrid Henry's Aquarium", "Horrid Henry Gets a Job", "Perfect Peter, Popstar", and "Horrid Henry on TV".
  • This is the very first episode where Beefy Bert says something else rather than 'I dunno.' (He says, 'You got any food?'.)
  • This is the third episode when Henry shouts something other than 'Noooo!!!'.
    • In the CITV version, Henry screams the usual 'Noooo!!!' to open the episode. This was changed to 'I need more money!' in the DVD version.
  • This is the only episode when Henry turns into a crab.
  • Henry's treatment of Peter in this episode is technically illegal.
  • The title card’s music almost sounds similar to "Horrid Henry and the Bogey Babysitter".
  • Gorgeous Gurinder appeared in a flashback, despite her not giving Henry any money. He might have given the perfume to her offscreen.
  • This episode is one of two which shows Henry at his horridest. The other one being "Horrid Henry Who Stole Mr Kill?".
  • On The Horrid Henry YouTube channel, this episode was completely remastered, such as:
    • Anytime a character uses the word 'buy' or 'sold', it is changed to 'get' or 'gave'.
    • Bert's line where he asks Henry if he has any foods is changed to his usual catchphrase 'I Dunno'.
    • Henry's imagination of him selling Peter is changed to his daydream of wearing Root-a-Toots every year from "Horrid Henry's New Shoes".
    • Any references to servanting are removed.

Differences from the book[]

  • In the episode, Henry sells Peter to Rude Ralph, who later sells him to Moody Margaret, while in the book Henry sold Peter directly to Margaret.
  • In the book, Mum's perfume bottle has a swan-shaped stopper. In the episode, it's just a normal bottle.
  • In the episode, Henry wants more money to buy a new toy castle. In the book, he just wants more money because he doesn't think he gets enough pocket money.
  • The endings are different. The book ends with Dad arriving home and asking if anyone wants to play tennis, while the episode ends with Henry having to use the money he earnt to buy replacements for Dad's tennis racquet and Mum's perfume.

Errors[]

Ralph mouth error

Ralph's missing his mouth

  • When Ralph was about to smell Mum's perfume, his mouth is missing in one frame.
  • While Henry is selling Al the tennis racket, you can see Mum's perfume next to the checkerboard. In the next scene however, it had completely disappeared. Eventually after Henry talks to Peter about being a servant, it appears back next to the checkerboard.
